Plant design for productive improvement through Systematic Layout Planning and simulation of discrete events in a construction materials company

This study investigates the challenges encountered by a company in organizing its production plant, focusing on machinery, raw materials, and finished product storage. These challenges emerged from a considerable surge in sales within a short timeframe, leading to an expansion of the distribution area from 40,000 to 100,000 square meters. It was concluded that the current plant design was inadequate to meet the company's present requirements. Furthermore, the surge in production and the heightened level of material and finished product storage have necessitated significant plant modifications. Consequently, there has been a noteworthy rise in the number of non-compliant panels requiring recycling. This study aims to gather data on the current plant layout, production flow, raw material and finished product storage, and the recycling process for non-conforming panels. Utilizing analytical tools and established methodologies, it will identify problematic areas and propose appropriate solutions to optimize plant organization and enhance production and distribution efficiency. This study aims to furnish the company with a comprehensive comprehension of the challenges in plant organization and layout. Moreover, it is expected to present feasible recommendations to overcome these hurdles. By implementing the proposed solutions, the company can attain optimize resource utilization, and ensure fulfillment of present and future requirements.
