Design and construction of a respirometer to evaluate the bioremediation of beach soils contaminated by oil to Aspergillus fumigatus and crab shell residues

This paper summarizes the development of a specialized respirometer with IoT technology for microbial respiration. The equipment was designed to measure temperature, CO
2
concentration, humidity and pressure in microcosms contained in standard 1 L laboratory bottles. This respirometer was applied to study the bioremediation capacity of the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus in soils contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons. The results showed a positive correlation between CO
2
generation and hydrocarbon degradation, indicating the potential of this respirometer in environmental restoration monitoring.
