Proposal for Effective Use of ICT to Support Collaboration between Classroom and Home Study

While ICT-based learning environments have been established in recent years through the GIGA school concept, its use at home is still in its growth stage. This paper constructs an instructional process that combines a junior high school home economics technology class and home study, and examines its effectiveness through classroom practice. After the class practice, 40 second-year junior high school students were asked to self-evaluate their efforts on a worksheet, and their responses were analyzed. The analysis results showed that students were actively engaged in inquiry activities at home by devising support for the four hours of class and home study, and that through the linkage of ICT-based class and home study, a place for inquiry-based learning was formed through individual and collaborative learning. This is believed to have led to an awareness of the viewpoints and ideas of technology that aim to realize a sustainable society and to properly evaluate and optimize technology from economic, environmental, and other perspectives.
