Design and Verification of Modified Single Controllable Switch Converter Based 3Ø SRM Drive System

Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) has mainly applicable for variable speed applications. Its construction is very simple in nature due to the absence of rotor windings, so the cost is considerably low. In conventional 3Ø, 6/4 SRM has two switches and diodes for each phase. To reduce the number of switches, use single controllable IGBT switch converter is used. But the problem is the circulation of energy from the motor to the source leads to extra losses in the power converter circuit, torque ripple issues, high-speed current harmonics have presented in the existing converter. To overcome that complication, here the Modified Single Controllable Switch (MSCS) Converter based 3Ø (6/4 Pole) SRM drive system has a single switch, a resistive element, and a capacitor with diode has able to recover the energy circulation because of the freewheeling ability of diode. The closed-loop system performance under steady-state conditions based on MSCS with SRM drive is investigated. The MATLAB simulation is carried out as a software tool and experimental results of phase currents are presented at the end of this paper to verify the implementation of the proposed converter topology.
