AI Based Smart Intensive Care Unit – A Survey

In the contemporary landscape of healthcare, the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has ushered in a transformative era, particularly within the domain of Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The emergence of AI-based Smart Intensive Care Units represents a monumental leap in the quest for more efficient, precise, and patient-centric critical care. These state-of-the-art ICUs seamlessly integrate AI technologies to augment the capabilities of healthcare providers, enhance patient outcomes, and streamline the entire care process. At the core of AI-based Smart ICUs lies the ability to continuously monitor patients, gathering a vast array of real-time data, including vital signs, lab results, and patient movements. Early identification is pivotal in ensuring timely interventions, potentially averting adverse events, and improving patient safety. The deployment of AI-based Smart ICUs is not without its challenges. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and security, must be addressed to protect patient information adequately. Regulatory compliance and the need for robust safeguards against algorithmic bias are essential in ensuring the responsible use of AI in critical care. This paper addresses the research challenges and a design is proposed.
