Simultaneous Lightwave Information and Power Transfer-based Design of Green IoT Communication System

This paper paves the way for realizing simultaneous data communication and energy harvesting for the smart indoor things in Internet of Things (IoT). The system considers the utilization of Visible Light Communication(VLC) to provide highspeed data links while meeting the illumination requirements in the indoor environment. Since the VLC signals carry light energy, which can be harvested by the photoelectric converters, forms the foundation of Simultaneous Lightwave Information and Power Transfer (SLIPT). This paper analyzed the different possibilities of SLIPT in terms of energy can also be harvested by the energy-constrained IOT modules/terminals like indoor sensors and portable, wearable devices. This paper presents design aspects of the SPLIT system with a high focus on the receiver part and transmission part. This system has a Bit Error Rate 8.3 x 10−12. The main contribution of this paper is to describe two main performance metrics: information transfer, and energy harvesting. The results have proven that this system can solve the energy crisis of power constrained IoT devices and to extent the IoT applications in the remote last-mile environments. The SLIPT technology makes use of a transmitter that emits light waves that simultaneously carry data and power. A photo transistor in the receiver device may turn the light waves into suitable power. The SLIPT system is efficient since it does not require separate power and data paths, reducing installation and maintenance costs.
