The International Comparison of Learners’ Knowledge and Awareness in Japanese Technology Education: A Comparative study of middle and high school students against Japan, Indonesia, China, and the United States of America

The study aims to evaluate current Japanese information technology education against Japan, Indonesia, China, and the United States of America and develop Japanese technology education via an international comparative survey on learners’ technology education knowledge and awareness. The results demonstrate differences in Japan’s 1) desire to utilize information and communication technologies (ICT) recreationally as opposed to professionally; 2) willingness to participate in industrial technology education (ITE) or information technology education; and 3) technology familiarity is comparatively lower than in other countries examined. Based on these results, Japanese technology education needs future development in terms of both curriculum and teaching materials.
