IoT-Enabled Aquaculture Surveillance System for Enhanced Fisheries Resource Management

Assessing water quality parameters is vital for sustainable aquaculture practices, as they have a direct influence on the well-being and productivity of aquatic organisms. Monitoring these parameters in real time is essential for evaluating the health of fish farms, and the emergence of smart solutions utilizing advanced sensors, communication technologies, and the Internet of Things (IoT) emphasizes the increasing importance of water parameter monitoring. Without an effective monitoring and management system, fish farmers lack knowledge of crucial water parameters, rely on outdated health checking methods, and face the risk of fish mortality due to unpredictable weather and environmental factors. This study demonstrates the application of an Internet of Things (IoT) and GPRS SMS communication technology, enables real-time monitoring and timely notifications for farmers regarding the quality parameters of the pond and water resource. This study presented the findings of average water parameter monitoring results in a fishpond study environment, including temperature $(30.35^{\circ}\mathrm{C})$, dissolved oxygen (2.53 mg/L), potential hydrogen (pH) (7.73), and ammonia concentration (5.46 ppm). Additionally, the study assesses the accuracy of the sensors used, with the dissolved oxygen sensor achieving 90%, the pH sensor achieving 92%, and the temperature sensor achieving 96% accuracy.
