Modelling a PV Panel Embedded with Phase Change Material (PCM)

The research aims to investigate the potential of an alternative back sheet of the PV panel based high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/ titanium dioxide (Ti0
2
). This new Phase Change Material (PCM) is targeted to reduce the temperature of the PV panel efficiently compared to an active cooling system. The specific heat capacity and the melting point of the nanocomposite were analyzed to understand its thermal behaviour and properties. Ansys simulation was conducted to identify the potential of HDPE/TiO
2
compared to commercial PV panel back sheets. The results show that the HDPE/TiO
2
composite has better thermal stability and specific heat capacity which leads to providing an efficient heat dissipation medium compared to commercial back sheet material (Tedlar). These findings help to support the potential of the HDPE/TiO
2
composite as a suitable replacement back sheet material in tropical countries.
