Detection of Islanding in Distributed Network in the Presence of DG Using Superimposed Positive Sequence Angle

Due to the rapid expansion of distributed energy sources within distribution grids, several challenges arise in distributed systems, such as transient stability, voltage flicker, failure of protection equipment, and islanding detection. It is a significant issue that could jeopardize the equipment and line workers. To overcome these challenges, this article proposed a novel islanding detection scheme based on a superimposed positive sequence angle between voltage and current at the DG terminal to detect islanding in PV and wind-based DG microgrids. The voltage and current obtained at DG point for estimated superimposed positive sequence angle between voltage and current. When the superimposed positive sequence angle exceeds a predetermined limit. The logic can detect islanding, otherwise, the distribution test network operated in grid-linked mode. The distribution model is created in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The simulation results show that the suggested approach effectively differentiates between islanding and non-islanding events. Notably, this proposed method boasts an extremely non-detection zone of nearly zero, no issue with power quality, and lower detection times (18 ms).
