Feasibility Study of Wind Turbine Generator for Potential Onshore Installation in Malaysia

This-paper presents a comprehensive study on the feasibility of wind turbine integration in Malaysia, where generally low-wind speeds prevail, but certain locations experience higher than average wind speeds, making them potential sites for wind farms. The project aims to identify suitable locations for wind turbine implementation and select an appropriate model from the mesoscale wind turbines (ranging from 100 kW to 500 kW) using HOMER Pro software. The study focuses on determining the optimal sizing and location of wind turbine generators and their seamless integration into the grid. Behavior of the grid before and after renewable energy integration is then observed utilizing the 26-bus system. Power flow analysis software PSS/E is employed for system constraint analysis, including voltage and thermal limits, and power losses in the system. Further optimization is carried out to obtain an optimized grid, efficiently integrated with the selected wind turbine generator. The results of this study will provide valuable insights for the practical implementation of wind turbine systems in Malaysia, contributing to sustainable energy generation and grid stability.
