A LEAF-FSO-Wireless Integrated System Using DFB LD With Multiple Side Modes Injection Locking

A large effective area fiber (LEAF)-free-space optical (FSO)-wireless integrated system employing distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode (LD) with multiple side modes injection locking is proposed and implemented for the first time. To provide a novel method for optical frequency comb generation, DFB LD is injection-locked in different side modes. System employs millimeter-wave (MMW), sub-terahertz (THz), and THz frequencies for transmitting 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals with 13-, 16-, 20-, and 25-Gbaud different baud rates. The total net bit rate reaches a record of 276.635 Gb/s, containing 49.598, 59.813, 74.766 and 93.458 Gb/s at 85, 163.125, 241.875 and 319.375 GHz, respectively. Over LEAF-FSO-wireless integration, system attains low bit error rates and error vector magnitudes needed for advanced communications at MMW/sub-THz/THz frequencies.
