Active in-Wheel Suspension Performance Analysis Using Linear Quadratic Controllers

Along with the explosion of electric vehicles, and environmentally friendly vehicles, researchers gradually shift the trend to focus more on electric and hybrid electric systems to replace purely mechanical systems. A controllable suspension system with an integrated traction motor is one of the topics on electric vehicles that attract many research groups and modern equipment manufacturing companies. In this study, we refer to the model of a traction motor linked to an active suspension system on an electric vehicle. The suspension controls are designed not only to ensure smoothness and safety on conventional systems but also to ensure durability and reliability for a complex system. This study concerned different types of controllers for the active suspension system which combines the in-wheel traction motor that is referred to as the electric vehicle. The results of this examination show that, compared with the unguided system, the proposed models significantly reduce the undesirable factors of the tractive motor and enhance the comfort and safety of passengers as well as vehicles.
