High Efficiency Perovskite Solar Cells Optimization

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted a lot of interest in the last decade, due to the remarkable improvement in efficiency. To analyse the performance of the cells, various software solutions could be used. In this paper, we simulated a solar cell consisting of an active layer with two perovskite absorbers (methylammonium lead iodide CH
3
NH
3
PbI
3
and methylammonium tin iodide CH
3
NH
3
SnI
3
), using the software SCAPS 1-D. We investigated the effects of different thicknesses for each of the two layers, by keeping the total thickness of the active layers constant and we observed that CH
3
NH
3
SnI
3
plays an important role in the efficiency of the solar cell, increasing the performance due to its lower band gap. Also, we compared the results to those obtained from a perovskite solar cell with a single active layer, having the same thickness as the cell with two absorbers, and we observed improved values of the efficiency for the structure with two active layers.
