Modelling Of Virtual Inertia for DC distribution System

The incorporation of renewable energy sources and the increasing demand for efficient power distribution have led to the adoption of DC distribution systems. However, these systems lack the inherent inertia present in traditional AC systems, which can affect their stability and response to disturbances. To address this issue, the concept of virtual inertia is introduced in this work, where energy storage devices are utilized to emulate the inertia response of AC systems. A superconducting fault current limiter is used as an energy storage device in this study. which not only provides fault current limiting capabilities but also exhibits unique properties such as zero resistance and fast response time.The proposed model focuses on the dynamic response of the SFCL in providing virtual inertia to the DC distribution system. The E (J, T) characteristic of the SFCL is incorporated into the model to accurately represent its behaviour under different fault conditions. The characteristic curves of the superconductor at various temperatures are taken into account to capture the effect of temperature on the SFCL’s performance.
