Design Methodology of a Microgrid based on Hybrid Energy Sources

This paper presents a new design methodology for an environmentally friendly microgrid based on hybrid multiple energy sources (PV-Diesel-BESS) used for rural electrification. A new microgrid design tree is proposed considering microgrid distance to local network. Moreover, the design tree includes a new lifetime greenhouse gas stabilization component that mitigate the pollution escalation over the project lifetime. Therefore, the decision support system (CoCoSo, DELPHI) to choose the appropriate component such as PV solar and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) for efficient energy sources and climatic hazards of rural area challenges is proposed. This methodology was validated through a case study using Homer software in which three types of performance test. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is performed considering both the polluter pays principle and the decrease in component prices.
