A Flexible Placement of Shunt Capacitors in Distribution Feeders According to Relationship Between Load Type and Its Components

Shunt capacitors usage at load points acts a meaningful task in reducing the energy amount that is lost in power networks, and the process is highly influenced by the load power of the network. This makes the precise modeling of consumer load profile, clearly indicating the behavior of each consumer load an important subject for consideration. The unstable nature of consumer load comes with varying voltage magnitudes depending on the type of energy end-user. This makes the presentation of loads with respect to constant current, constant power, and constant impedance very essential and practical in power systems. With regard to this, formulating the relationship between load components and types can play a vital role in determining a robust capacitor placement model. Therefore, this study has formulated a mathematical relation that connects the load components and the types of consumers for the accurate prediction of reactive power control in power networks. A generic IEEE 33-busbar distribution network was tested with the formulation and outcomes indicate the suggested model is precise and faster contrast to the use of the whole load profile in shunt capacitor placement problems.
