Design and Development of BMS Circuit at Laboratory Platform

A battery management system, commonly referred to as BMS is a battery protection circuit which is used for protection, advance management, and monitoring of rechargeable batteries, such as lithium ion, lithium polymer, nickel cadmium. It basically controls and keeps track of the performance of rechargeable batteries, including those found in renewable energy storage systems and electric vehicles. By regulating charging and discharging speeds, keeping track of temperature and voltage levels, and avoiding overcharging and over discharging, it guarantees the battery's security and longevity. The BMS additionally gives the user or system controller real-time data on battery condition, including state of charge and health, when connected with a microcontroller. This paper briefly presents the literature review of BMS components. Further, in this paper the design and development of a battery management system at laboratory level is discussed and presented in detail. The software design is developed in Proteus software (for 3s) and hardware is developed (for 1s and 2s) to validate the design.
