Recent Advancements in Corrosion Inhibitor Performance Evaluation and Surface Analysis

The eco-friendly nature of organic green corrosion inhibitors (OGCIs) derived from plant extracts has generated considerable interest. These inhibitors are non-toxic, readily biodegradable, effective at preventing corrosion, and economical to extract. In the domain of green chemistry, the increased demand for such inhibitors has prompted research on the evaluation of their performance evaluation and surface analysis techniques. This review conducted an in-depth critical analysis of peer-reviewed published works in international scientific journals between 2018 and 2023, with a focus on the development of techniques for evaluating the efficacy of OGCIs and characterizing surfaces to prevent corrosion. The overarching objective is to provide researchers, vendors, and operators with a concise but comprehensive knowledge base. It emphasizes the practical significance of surface characterization methodologies, delves into their implementation in the real world, and addresses obstacles associated with inhibitor efficacy assessment and surface characterization. In addition, it examines the potential avenues for future progress and innovation, and concludes with salient points for future research endeavours.
