IoT and Data Analytic Framework for DisCos Power Outage Performance Evaluation

This paper introduces a real-time monitoring and performance evaluation system designed for electricity supply based on service band tariffs in Nigeria. The system utilizes an Internet of Things (IoT) data logger to transmit power supply logs to a cloud application server. The system underwent testing, and preliminary results from September 1st to 14th, 2023, specifically for Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KE DisCo), are presented. The analysis includes parameters such as average daily electric supply, the longest duration of power supply and power outage, and the number of hourly blinks. For a residential building in the KE DisCo service band D non-MD, the evaluation indicates 100% service band performance, with 7 hours and 36 minutes for the longest power supply duration and 10 hours and 36 minutes for the longest outage and maximum of 22 blinks in a day. The system's potential benefits extend to policymakers, consumers, and electricity distribution companies.
