Physico-chemical Characterization of Date Palm Seed as A Reinforcement in Aluminium Matrix Composites

This study investigates the use of date palm seed as a potential reinforcement material in aluminum composites. Two samples of date palm seed (non-ash and ash) were prepared through crushing and calcination in an electric muffle furnace at 500°C. FTIR tests and X-ray fluorescence analysis were conducted on the samples. The results showed that the raw date palm seed sample contained functional groups like hydroxyl/phenol, alkane, and alkene, while the date palm seed ash contained only alkene. The XRF analysis revealed similar oxides found in other agro-wastes used as reinforcement materials. The main oxide in the date seed ash was potassium oxide, while the main oxide in the raw date palm seed was magnesium oxide. Elemental analysis revealed the presence of iron, potassium, chromium, and magnesium in both date palm seed samples.
