Study on Windage Yaw Characteristics of Strain Tower Jumper of 500 kV Transmission Line

In the strong wind environment, the strain tower jumper will rotate due to the wind swing, resulting in a decrease in the gap between the jumper and the tower. In this paper, a coupled finite element model is established to simulate the 500 kV strain tower insulator string-jumper-cage jumper skeleton system, aiming to explore the influence of string length and wind attack angle on the wind deflection angle of the jumper suspension insulator. At the same time, considering the fluctuating wind conditions with an average wind speed of 35 m/s, the wind yaw rotation characteristics of the jumper model are analyzed. The results show that in the case of considering the wind deflection angle of the jumper, the insulation gap is further reduced, and the minimum insulation gap of the jumper under strong wind conditions will be less than the standard value, which increases the risk of wind deflection tripping of the transmission line.
