Synchrophasor Estimation Based on Modified Demodulation-Cascaded Delayed Signal Cancellation

Synchrophasors are a cutting-edge wide-area power system monitoring and control technologies, particularly for contemporary networks with a significant renewable energy component. Two reference synchrophasor models are suggested in the IEEE/IEC 60255-118-1 standard for the building of synchrophasor units for protection (P-class) and measuring (M-class) applications. In this paper, an improved P-class synchrophasor technique based on modified demodulation is proposed. A frequency adaptable second harmonic oscillator is incorporated at the traditional modulation approach to dampen high amplitude oscillations that result from it. A low pass filter based on delayed signal cancellation (DSC), which is computationally effective and highly capable of extracting selected harmonic is utilized to enhance the performance of estimates in challenging circumstances. Results indicate that the proposed synchrophasor model significantly improves steady state compliance while simultaneously reducing the dynamic error margin.
