An Integral Sliding Mode Control of DC-DC Boost Converter Feeding CPLs in DC-Microgrids Applications

This paper introduces a pulse width modulation (PWM) based Integral Sliding Mode Control (ISMC) technique for a DC-DC boost converter (DDBC), supplying power to the constant power loads (CPLs) in the renewable DC microgrids (DCMGs). In DCMGs, nonlinear CPLs and intermittent renewable energy sources (RESs) present a stability concern that is examined in this work. The ISMC utilizes the DDBC's nonlinear dynamical model to mitigate incremental negative impedance (INI), employing an advanced reaching law and an integral-based sliding surface for improved performance and robustness against the external disturbances. The global stability of the system is rigorously analyzed using control Lyapunov function theory. Comprehensive simulation studies including variations in input voltage, reference DC bus voltage, and power demand validate the theoretical framework and demonstrate the ISMC's advantages over the conventional dualloop proportional-integral (PI) control methods. The findings highlight the ISMC's effectiveness in maintaining stability and reliable performance amidst the challenges posed by CPLs and intermittent RESs in DCMGs.
