Fabrication and Characterization of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Using Alternanthera dentata Natural Dye

A dye-sensitized solar cell harnesses solar radiation to generate electrical power through sensitization of the cell. The efficacy of these solar cells is primarily contingent upon the specific dye employed as the sensitizing agent. In this research, a spin-coated nanocrystalline TiO
2
photo-electrode was successfully employed on a glass substrate coated with SnO
2
:F. A dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) was fabricated using a natural dye extracted from Alternanthera dentata leaves as the photosensitizing agent. The carbon back electrode and KI/I
2
based electrolyte solution were the other components of this DSSC. 685 mV open circuit voltage (Voc), 0.568 mA/cm
²
short circuit current density (Jsc), 43.05% fill factor (FF), and 0.1675% efficiency was observed in the case of Alternanthera dentata dye-sensitized solar cell. This dye is readily available throughout Bangladesh and provides affordability, eco-friendliness, and simple dye extraction benefits.
