A Comprehensive Study on the Classification of the Edibility of Mushrooms

Food is very integral when it comes to sustaining life. However, it is crucial to identify what food to eat. Mother Nature finds ways to scare away animals. Over time, plants have evolved to prevent animals from eating them, like having chilies, poisonous leaves, or even deadly fruits just so animals don't eat them. Animals eat them or get itches from them many times before learning that a particular plant is dangerous. But we can't let humans learn like this too. So, to prevent people from eating such poisonous food, we need to find ways to distinguish the food as edible or poisonous. Different species of mushrooms also come in this category and we can tell from the different properties of their various parts to characterize healthy-to-eat mushrooms. In this research, we attempt to find the best machine-learning model to identify edible mushrooms from tabulated visually distinguishable details of different mushroom samples. At this point in time, this research was crucial as the work done in this field has withered over time and the results have now become obsolete. The main reason for this drastic change is the increase in performance of the machine learning models themselves as well as the field as a whole has gone through tremendous changes and improvements. Every day, some changes keep coming and this field is progressing a lot. So, it becomes important that such kinds of studies keep on coming from our fellow researchers to keep all the work up to date.
