Antiresonant Fiber Based Polarization Filter for Sensing Application

We present an original layout for a single-polarization directed antiresonant fiber that incorporates nested and double layer tubes having a high-index coating material to serve as a filter along with sensor. The proposed fiber with an increased index composite layer and a variety of cladding tube combinations potentially mitigate one polarized light through its coupling action. Besides, the loss of the other polarized light is minimized via an inhibited coupling action. In addition, the internal physics for establishing two modes of the designed fiber has been explored, where core mode intersects across cladding mode at an appropriate wavelength, which results the blockage of light for the one polarization state. Consequently, the leakage loss of y-pol light is 576 dB/m, whereas the loss of x-pol light is only 0.0018 dB/m at 1550 nm. This results in a maximum polarization extinction ratio of 3.2×10

at 1550 nm, maintains a > 100 value for a bandwidth of 40 nm. Furthermore, at wavelengths ranging from 1535 nm to 1570 nm, a crosstalk of > 20 dB is detected for a minimal device size of 20 cm, demonstrating the filtering operation’s for the fiber. Additionally, the fiber realized the sensing capability, with a maximal wavelength sensitivity of approximately 1293 nm/RIU. As a consequence, the simultaneous utilization of the recommended fiber offers it a compelling candidate for optical technologies.
