Dynamic Wavelength and Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm in NG-EPON by Serving ONUs Request in Sequential Order

Next generation Ethernet passive optical network (NG-EPON) is an upgraded form of the existing EPON with improved bandwidth support and quality of services. Data transmission in the upstream direction, i.e., from optical network units (ONUs) to optical line terminal (OLT), of NG-EPON can be done by a single or more than one wavelengths. Bandwidth demand is increasing rapidly in data network, for proper management of this demand the NG-EPON must requires an efficient bandwidth allocation algorithm. This algorithm can be more efficient by using more than one upstream wavelengths. Dynamic wavelength and bandwidth allocation (DWBA) algorithm plays a vital role in the upstream direction to allocate users’ request on multiple channels and ensure faster data transmission. However, in the conventional DWBA algorithm, the simultaneous allocation of bandwidth increases the frame rearrangement problem in the OLT of the NG-EPON systems. In this paper, a new DWBA algorithm based on the ONU’s request in sequential order (DWBA-RSO) in the pool is proposed. This way the proposed DWBA-RSO scheme can reduce the frame rearrangement problem compared to the existing DWBA schemes.
