Performance Analysis of Scan Ra ar Beamforming for the Detection of Multiple Targets

This paper offers the idea of a uniform rectangular array (URA)-based scan radar beamforming system that is able to detect multiple moving targets by estimating their ranges, angles, and speeds with better accuracy as compared to existing radar systems. Linear and circular beamforming has edging problems and constraints on interferences that restrict the beamformer's maximum gain in all interference directions. So, URA-based beamforming is introduced in the system. The process of multiple target detection is accomplished with the help of 40×40 URA scanning from −120° to +120° which provides narrower beamwidth for better 3D search within a large scan volume. In order to investigate the performance of the proposed system, three moving targets are considered to be detected with their ranges, angles, and speeds by varying all the radar and target parameters. The proposed radar system shows an accuracy of 99.93% in range estimation and 93.16% in angle estimation which can be considered a splendid performance in detecting three moving targets as compared to the existing systems.
