Design of a Ka Band Phased Array Feed Based on the Focal Plane Field Sampling for Edge Beam

A new design method of the phased array feed based on the focal plane field sampling for the edge beam is proposed. The design parameters are determined by investigating the focal plane field sampling of the reflector antenna illuminated by the off-axial incident plane waves. A Ka band phased array feed is designed using the proposed method. The simulated results show that the aperture efficiency is increased by 2% to 4% in the
$\pm 4^{\circ}$
field of view. This method provides a new design of the phased array feed for the reflector antennas with a smaller ratio of focal length to diameter and a larger field of view.
