Design of A Wideband 1-Bit Reconfigurable Beam-Scanning Reflectarray

A 1-bit linear-polarization (LP) reconfigurable reflactarray antenna (RRA) based on a wideband unit is designed and simulated for wideband beam scanning. The reconfigurable unit consists of two rectangular patches with four parasitic patches on the back, such a structure makes it have the characteristics of wideband. PIN diode controlled by DC bias gives the unit reconfigurable characteristics. The unit and the reflectarray is simulated in Ansys HFSS 2022 Rl. By optimizing the feed location and the phase compensation schemes, the final reconfigurable array achieves 33 % 3dB gain bandwidth and can support the scanning angles ranging from -60°to +60°in both xoz plane and yoz plane.
