Design of a T-slot Based Microstrip Patch Antenna with Reduced Cross Polarization

This paper presents a design of a Microstrip patch antenna for low-power applications, operating at a frequency of 948MHz. The antenna is having a broadside radiation pattern, linear polarization, and high directivity. The radiating rectangular patch of the antenna is optimized with a T-shaped slot to achieve the desired frequency and a gain of 5.3 dBi. An inset feed line is used to efficiently feed the antenna, while a ground plane beneath the patch enhances its overall performance. To thoroughly investigate the Microstrip patch's characteristics, a comprehensive parametric study is conducted. The s11 obtained is -28.6 dB with a cross polarization of -30.4 dBi. The proposed antenna design holds promise for various low-power applications like UAV communications where reliable communication and efficient signal reception are crucial.
