Assessment of the Non-Sinusoidal Load Influence on the Active Power Losses and Transmission Capacity of the 0.4 kV Power Cable

The results of instrumental measurements of parameters and power quality indices of electrical energy in a 0.4 kV power cable circuit with a non-sinusoidal load, which showed deviations in the 3rd, 9th and 15th voltage harmonics, are presented. An example of calculation based on the obtained spectrum of current harmonics, the corrected value of the long-term allowable cable current, which must be taken into account to prevent overheating of the cable insulation during its operation, is given. Practical calculation of active power losses showed that a significant part of them is power losses from higher harmonic currents, which accelerate insulation wear and reduce the cable service life.
