Enhanced Triple Band Circular Coplanar Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Complementary Split Ring Resonator

This paper presents a triple-band circular coplanar microstrip antenna based on Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) operating at three frequency bands: 3.07 GHz-4.83 GHz, 5.18 GHz-5.45 GHz, and 5.84 GHz-9.46 GHz. The antenna design aims to improve performance in terms of impedance bandwidth, gain, and reflection coefficient. The conventional antenna exhibits a single resonance frequency at 3.9 GHz with a modest gain of 1.60 dBi and a lower reflection coefficient of -41.13 dB. To achieve multiband characteristics, CSRR, a metamaterial (MTM) structure, is incorporated into the patch and feed line of the antenna. Simulation results using CST Microwave Studio show two additional resonance frequencies at 5.31 GHz and 9.09 GHz, with the lowest reflection coefficients of -27.78 dB and -50.22 dB, and higher gains of 1.07 dBi and 3.76 dBi, respectively. The proposed antenna design provides a compact solution for multiple frequency bands, making it suitable for satellite communication and radar systems for weather and aircraft, as well as WLAN (Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6E) applications.
