Increasing the Efficiency of Solar Power Plant in a Tropical Climate

This article presents the results of research aimed at improving the efficiency of converting solar energy into electricity in a solar power plant. The object under study was a solar power plant with stationary photovoltaic modules, located on the territory of the Republic of Cuba. The choice of this power plant is due to the current low efficiency, despite the initially high potential for solar energy in the region. To achieve a positive result, a number of tasks were solved, which include determination of energy that is significant for determining the maximum generated by a solar power plant in a tropical climate; finding the optimal solution to maximize energy, generated by the power plant; development of special software, as well as an experimental model confirming the hypotheses put forward. An increase in efficiency is achieved using tracking systems for the Sun, in which the average annual increase in energy will be about 30%. The results obtained in the framework of the study are presented in this work.
