Tasks Offloading Techniques in the Era of Mobile Augmented Reality for Sparse and Dense Mist Computing Environments

Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) has witnessed substantial growth, yet challenges like task delay, bandwidth constraints, and device energy drain persist. The emergence of edge and mist computing offers a remedy. This paper investigates MAR within mist computing, evaluating it across sparse and dense environments using four task orchestration algorithms. We assess CPU usage, mist layer and WiFi energy consumption, task execution time, and network utilization. Our study demonstrates the advantages of mist-enabled task orchestration, showcasing improved MAR system performance. This research contributes insights into the symbiotic relationship between MAR and mist computing, highlighting mist’s potential to enhance MAR challenges. The findings underscore mist computing’s viability in advancing MAR applications and systems.
