A DRA Loaded Quad Band MIMO Antenna with CSRR Structure and Metallic Reflectors for Mutual Coupling Reduction

A four port quad-band MIMO antenna with dielectric resonators is suggested. The proposed antenna is consisting of four cylindrical DRA’s in which each DRA is excited by a modified annular shaped feed line. As the key objective of this research is to reduce mutual coupling hence two complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) and four metallic reflectors have been implemented in common ground plane. A prototype of the proposed antenna is simulated using HFSS software. The simulation result states that the antenna resonates at 2.56GHz, 3.8GHz, 5.8GHz and 7.4GHz with impedance bandwidth of 26%, 32%, 16.55% and 19% respectively. The peak antenna gain at the stated resonant frequencies are found to 4.2dB, 5.65dB, 5.6dB and 6. 95dB respectively. The isolation between the ports at 2.56GHz, 3.8GHz, 5.8GHz and 7.4GHz are found to be 37.8dB, 46dB, 38.9dB and 43dB in the order mentioned. The diversity parameters, including ECC, MEG, and DG, found are effective for the MIMO context. Based on the simulated findings, it can be concluded that the mentioned antenna is compatible with all the frequency bands required for WLAN and Wi-Max services.
