FPGA Implementation of M-δ (Delta) Decomposition for RISAT1 Hybrid Polarimetric SAR Image

The advancements in VLSI technology due to availability of multimillion gate FPGAs with built-in Processor cores have given scope for implementation of m-δ (delta) decomposition method for processing Hybrid polarimetric SAR images of RISATl satellite. The FPGA implementation is done for spot-based scene images as limited volume of data is involved. This approach for FPGA implementation along with growing trends of miniaturization in future has the potential for Small Satellite SAR Missions with on-board processing of SAR images. It will improve turn-around-time, reduce the downlink data to be transmitted, and also gives potential for direct delivery to end user. Preliminary experimental results are encouraging.
