Haptic Glove for Deaf and Dumb People Using Arduino Nano

A microcontroller-based system has been created to measure finger movements using hand-specific flex sensors. The system is designed as a wearable glove and utilizes five flex sensors to detect wrist bending corresponding to specific finger gestures. Each finger on the palm has a set of flex sensors to capture the movements accurately. The flex sensors change their resistance values based on the bending angle formed during finger movements. As the fingers bend, the resistance increases proportionally. The heart of the system is an extensively used eight-bit microcontroller, the ATMega328P, which features an internally 10-bit multiplexed Analog-to-Digital converter to handle the sensor signals effectively. While designing the glove, some critical considerations include calibration and accommodating variations in finger size, height, and thickness among different patients. Accurate measurements of these parameters are essential to prevent overlapping of the finger gestures and ensure reliable gesture recognition.
