Automatic Night-Time Sea Fog Confidence Interval Detection Algorithm Based on Himawari-8 Data

Sea fog is the primary factor affecting visibility at sea, severely limiting ship navigation. In order to solve the problems of high misjudgment rate of sea fog and poor stability of algorithm by traditional threshold method, this paper carries out a research on the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea region based on Himawari-8 data, establishes histograms of brightness temperature difference of different bands, determines optimal confidence range of sea fog, and establishes automatic detection algorithm of night-time sea fog confidence intervals based on Himawari-8 data. In this paper, the algorithm is validated using the FY-4A data fog detection product, which has good stability, with a probability of detection (POD) of 84.6%, a false alarm ratio (FAR) of 11%, and a critical success index (CSI) of 90%. This study provides a reference for night-time sea fog forecasting and is of great significance for vessel navigation and fishery production activities.
