The Effects of Nacelle Pipe Design Parameters on Resistance to Fire

Fire resistance is a necessary design objective for nacelle pipes, which is an inevitable part of the airworthiness certification tests and directly affects the operational safety of the engine. This paper introduces an analysis process for obtaining the leakage risk of pipe joint. Temperature and heat transfer coefficient is obtained from the standard flame simulation and set as the third boundary conditions to perform pipe fluid-thermal-solid coupling analysis. Temperature distribution in the solid domain of the pipe wall is then derived and structural deformation analysis is conducted. Based on this process, the effects of some key design parameters of structural design parameters such as joint tightening torque, clamping distance and fluid operating parameters such as the fluid inlet temperature, pressure, flow rate on fire test are analyzed. It is summarized that variations of these parameters have certain influence on pipe joint contact stress, with the inlet temperature and tightening torque have the most significant impact.
