An overview of the applications of AI-powered Visual IoT systems in agriculture

Agriculture plays a pivotal role in supporting human existence and exerts a considerable influence on both food security and economic development. The incorporation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the agricultural landscape by facilitating real-time data collection, analysis, and decision-making. Through IoT devices and sensors, crucial information about crop conditions is obtained, while AI algorithms process extensive datasets to generate valuable insights and predictions. This synergistic technological approach enhances productivity, sustainability, and operational efficiency in agriculture, empowering farmers to optimize resource allocation, manage risks, and adapt to evolving conditions. This paper aims to offer a comprehensive examination of contemporary research initiatives employing AI-driven visual IoT systems within the agricultural field. We then investigate the challenges and prospects inherent in these initiatives, concluding with a discussion on future directions for the prospective trajectories for the advancement of proficient and sustainable AI-driven visual IoT systems in agriculture. Following that, we highlight the opportunities and challenges faced by the works presented. Lastly, we outline future paths for the development of efficient and sustainable AI-powered visual IoT systems in the agriculture field.
