The Effect of Liquid Dielectric Impregnation on the Self-Healing Characteristics

Self-healing processes in PP, PET and PPS metalized films in dry and impregnated by different liquid dielectrics states were investigated. It was determined that liquid dielectric impregnation increases electric strength and self-healing energy. In the cases of impregnated polymer films the value of breakdown voltage and self-healing energy have increased by 4 – 12 % and 7 – 24 % respectively, and self-healing duration remained constant. All types of used liquid dielectrics have led to increasing of dissipated energy during self-healing process. It was shown that non-polar liquid dielectrics with low value of dielectric permittivity have a less effect on dissipated energy increasing.
