Non-Invasive Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer Using STM32 - A Review

In this paper, the groundwork on review of a non- invasive transcutaneous bilirubinometer using STM32, is done by considering several existing methods and identifying the challenges along with the implementation. Jaundice is now frequently referred to as hyperbilirubinemia that affect newborns is common anxiety to parents. The liver plays a crucial role in breaking down hemoglobin, which is a red pigment found in red blood cells. This process is made possible using specific metabolic enzymes. The detection of hyperbilirubinemia using noninvasive techniques does not create any discomfort to the neonates. Hence for developing an efficient non-invasive transcutaneous bilirubinometer using the STM32, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of real-time applications and a comparative analysis of existing systems based on sensors, photography, mobile/ computer for jaundice screening and continuous monitoring approaches along with its challenges are identified for the benefit future researchers. The suggestion of employing LDR and LED (red) sensors using STM32 is implemented as a prototype and integrated with IoT for the welfare of neonates.
