A Cutting-Edge Safety Wristband for Underground Mine Workers

Mining operations inherently expose workers to various health and safety risks, including hazardous gases, temperature fluctuations, humidity variations, and the constant threat of mine collapse. The omnipresence of coal dust further elevates the potential for explosions and fires, posing severe threats to miners' well-being. In response to these challenges, an IoT-based prototype is developed that utilizes Arduino Uno and ESP32 microcontrollers, along with RFID for precise location tracking. Our system comprehensively monitors both the mine environment (temperature, humidity, air pressure, altitude, and hazardous gases) and individual miner health metrics (pulse). This integrated approach provides a robust safety net, enabling timely responses and potentially life-saving interventions. Furthermore, the system proactively notifies ground control in the event of alarming deviations, contributing to a safer mining environment.
