Structural Health Monitoring That Uses Light Stress Wave

Cracks in concrete structures can lead to serious safety concerns and structural failures if left undetected. Conventional crack detection techniques frequently have disadvantages such high cost, complexity, and poor early-stage crack detection capabilities. In this study, we suggest an innovative light stress wave (LSW) method for concrete crack detection. We present the simulation to generate controlled light stress waves using neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (Nd:YAG) and capture their response using optical sensor (FBG). Light stress wave-based crack detection is an appealing alternative for practical application in the field of structural engineering due to its nondestructive nature, relative simplicity, and cost-effectiveness. This research contributes to advancing the knowledge and understanding of using light stress waves for crack detection in concrete, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool for ensuring the long- term persistence and safety of concrete structures. The findings demonstrate the promising capabilities of this technique, with initial results showing improved crack detection sensitivity compared to traditional methods.
