A review of various techniques used for classification of dermatoscopic images using machine learning or deep learning classifiers

Skin cancer is one of the most widespread and lethal type of cancer. It is getting more prevalent in today’s world due to increase in exposure to harmful radiations and chemicals in our daily routine. Its alarming increase in human population has made it’s early detection an utmost necessity. Many image processing techniques have been developed for automated detection of skin cancer which involves the use of machine learning and deep learning based classifiers. The paper presents a review of various techniques that are used in research for classification of dermatoscopic images. The paper summarizes the techniques based on the feature sets used and the classifier. The findings of selected quality papers has been presented in the form of tables for easy analysis and understanding
