Experimental Study of 500 MHz Low-Power Radiative WPT for Low-Power Home Electronic Appliances

The implementation of Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) in home electronic appliances is generally through non-radiative technology. Radiative technology was limited mainly by issues of efficiency and safety. This experimental study was conducted to supply power to some low-power home electronic appliances using low-power radiative WPT system. The main objective was to prove the feasibility of using radiative WPT in daily life despite its low efficiency and power. The process focused on building WPT system without considering the efficiency factor. A 5-watt low-power transmitter was used to make sure the system was safe for the human body. Moreover, 500 MHz frequency was used based on the assumption that it was easy to apply and had an antenna with relatively smaller dimensions. The experimental results showed that a 20-watt LED bulb, a quartz clock, and an air conditioner remote control worked at the farthest distances of 25 cm, 125 cm, and 20 cm, respectively. This proved that the radiative WPT was feasible for daily implementation despites its low efficiency and power.
