Autonomous Print-Bed Calibration Technique for Large-Scale FDM 3D Printer

One of the biggest challenges in Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM)–based 3D printing is its surface misalignment due to improper heat distribution in its print bed. It becomes further complicated if the print bed is bigger than 300 mm. Due to this problem, many printed objects deviate from their original dimension. This paper highlights a possible solution to this print-bed calibration for a large-scale laboratory-made FDM printer. The technique uses a capacitive sensor to detect and correct the print-head misalignment during printing.
