Development of GUI for Acquiring and Monitoring Tip Clearance

Gas turbines are an essential component in the energy and aviation industries, providing reliable and efficient power generation and propulsion. A gas turbine is a form of turbine that employs compressed gas to rotate and produce electrical power or provide propulsion to an aircraft or jet. Tip clearance is one of the key factors in gas turbine architecture, referring to the distance between the tip of the blade and the outer casing in a gas turbine engine. It significantly affects the efficiency of the gas turbine. In real-time, the blade size varies in millimeters due to various factors such as temperature, engine RPM, centrifugal force, etc. Therefore, monitoring this distance is crucial for the overall performance of the gas turbine. This study uses polynomial curve fitting to calculate the tip clearance of the gas turbine and display it in real-time. The primary focus of this study is to measure the tip clearance and display the real-time measurement along with the RPM, channel configuration, and pre-run check. The implementation is achieved with the help of LabVIEW, which is software designed for systems engineering. It is ideal for tasks that require control, measurement, and testing, and it provides fast access to data insights and hardware.
